System Sponsored Old Age
In our constant efforts to achieve the lifestyle of our dreams we encounter many challenges; money, work, relationships, family, health and so on. I was unable to dodge a lady with a clipboard the other day and I was alarmed to realise that my age group is now the last but one on her tick box list! Before long I will occupy the last box - before the ultimate box! Society has managed to brainwash us into believing or accepting that a certain age means we should like certain things, avoid certain clothes, and let our exercise habits be influenced by our age. Of course this is RUBBISH. One of my heroes is 72 and is still working full time and exercising as much as he did in his 20s. Try telling Sylvester Stallone to slow down, not wear jeans and take up crown green bowling. in his excellent book "Ageless Body, Timeless Mind" Deepak Chopra wrote that people grow old and die because they see others grow old and die. Chopra believes that without negative influences from outside our bodies could last between 115 and 120 years before the ageing process finally caused them to shut down. The Tarahumara Mexican Indians live far from "society" and outside influences; there are around 40,000 of them living in remote mountainous villages. they call themselves "Raramuri" which means foot runners. Running is their only way of getting around; in 1993 their ultra marathon, the Leadvale Trail 100 was won by a 55 year old - amazing ordinarily but this race is run at an altitude of 10,000 feet! From the Raramuri perspective the victory was all the more remarkable because runners do not hit their prime until their late 50s and 60s! I have heard nutritionalists and other specialists say that age is irrelevant. Life is not a rehearsal - sound familiar? We must make the most of each and every day and ignore the messages from our system which wants to put us in a box and follow everyone else.
